Again today, we are lucky to have water
Every year, World Water Day is there to remind us of water’s significance in our lives, as well as our responsibility in handling it with respect. Join us in celebrating this important day of awareness! 22-03-2024
Access to water = stability
This year, the theme for the day is “Water for peace”, highlighting water’s ability to create peace and stability – or to spark conflict. When water is scarce or polluted, or when people have unequal or no access, tensions can rise between communities and countries, resulting in an unsafe and unpredictable everyday life.
To celebrate water’s contribution to stability in our lives, we want to share the wise words of some of our water-loving colleagues. Find their input below.
"It's often said that claiming 'without water there is no life' is like stating the obvious - we all know its vital importance. Yet, as crucial as water is within our bodies, it holds equal significance outside of them. Have you ever noticed how many of our happiest moments are linked to water? It's time we truly grasp its importance and recognize that it's everyone's responsibility to avoid its wasteful use. #PlayYourRole" – Juliano Castanho de Moraes, AVK Brasil
“Water is essential for life, and to me, its importance is even more significant. As a mother, I know that water is vital for the sustenance of lives. My twins were immersed for 9 months in a water bag, protected and nurtured, which is incredibly beautiful. As a mother, Environmental Manager, and inhabitant of this world, I strive to teach this importance to my children so they understand the value of this precious resource. I encourage them not to waste water, whether it's during bath time, brushing their teeth, or helping with the dishes. In the photo, they are helping me wash the dishes and keeping the faucet turned off while scrubbing.” - Thalita Navarro Gomes, AVK Brasil
About World Water Day
As explained on the UN’s website, access to water is a human right. Yet, 2.2 billion live without safely managed drinking water services, with devastating impacts for their lives and wider society.
Therefore, World Water Day seeks to celebrate water and to inspire action to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
